GHS North HistoryGalesburg High School North originally began as Galesburg Alternative High School in 2009. GHS North opened its doors to students in the Fall 2009, offering a mix of online and traditional instruction. Our primary goal is to help students be successful while remaining enrolled in Galesburg schools. Our initial student population consists of up to 50 high school students. In our second year, we are happy to have over 80 students enrolled and two new teachers and other friendly staff members. We continue to try to help students thrive and focus on making sure that students are at school ready to learn and achieving academic success in a positive learning environment.
Rose Hoben Welch SchoolOpened in 1960, Rose Hoben Welch School was built to relieve overcrowding at other existing elementary schools (including Bateman, Cooke, and Weston Grade Schools) in Galesburg, likely the result of the post-World War II "Baby Boomers" filling our buildings beyond capacities. According to reports, RHW was built at a cost of less than $175,000 and housed 160 students in its first year of operation.
